Rick,

I don't think this badge was ever officially retired, at least I couldn't find this information.

But the silver type is supposed to have been superceded by the bronze ones?

If they were still being awarded at the end, wouldn't they be nasty Staybrite flashed aluminum, or some other alloy?

Has anyone seen a new/icky quality one?

Rick,

Not all badges produced in the late 1980's were in aluminum. Quite a few were still made in brass with hot enamel (ie: PVO badge).
It is possible, due to the prestige attached to this badge, that it was made in brass up to the very end.

Did all badges have the raised mint marks, especially the 40's-50's variations?

Re: Akademy badge radio operator

Hi Michael,

your look okay to me :thumbsup, but the blue enamel on the top is missing .

According to Borisov, the badge was thought up as a follow-up to Radio Day, 2 May 1945. It was awarded for recognition of outstanding service relaed to any aspect of radios - design, manufacture and so on. It was awarded by several People's Kommissariats, and later Ministries. It was first awarded in April 1946 and was made at the Moscow Mint.
Many of these badges were also awarded to military personal.

The first badges were made out of silver the last ones out of brass.
I think they were awarded till the end of the soviet union. I have a picture of a document with awarding date 1977 - s/n: 21.xxx.

regards
Andreas

Honorary Radioist

Is "Radioist" a word? Even my English fails me here.

What does the assembled widsom say of this? Good, bad, faked?

It is in АВЕРС 8, #776, p. 160, but I'm not sure which variety, a/b/c.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Honorary Radioist

Wouldn't "Radio Operator" be a more proper term?

As to the badge itself, it looks OK to me.
