A Red banner made out of concrete?

Hey everyone,
I have this Order of the Red Banner made out of concrete. It is about 30 cm high and also about 30cm wide. Did you ever see something like that? I think it could have been in a barracks building or in a ship awarded with the Red Banner. For sure it is a very special piece of soviet history.

Your opinions please

I have seen similar-type designs for several types of military and civilian decorations.

I don´t know. It looks not so preofessionally made. Compared to others I´ve seen on buildings´ pictures, looks like a fake to me.

Re: A Red banner made out of concrete?

May or may not be. I have a Lenin hammered(?)/stamped out of medal that could have been official and a pretty solid Order of the Red Banner of Labor made of metal that must have been "official".

This particular Red Banner could be "official" or unofficial depending on its purpose. Don't forget that the armed forces had millions of young men with spare time on their hands and they were often ordered to do things like decorate social rooms for morale purposes. This may not be "official" manufacture, but "officially" ordered to be displayed.

With that in mind someone could have made it yesterday too for deception or a high school art project.

Personally, I'd go along with this second variant.

Building orders were showcasing the unit/factory/enterprise that received it. As such, they were of at least "reasonable" quality - which is definitely not the case here - most of the time made of metal. I have never seen or heard of an order made out of concrete for this purpose.

Marc

My modest contribution

Marc, I would agree with you, but know from personal experience that the lower the unit, the fewer "artistically gifted" people.

If this was in a company or battalion unit room or krasnii ugol, I could see that too. We've all seen some pretty gaudy and even downright tasteless, even official, socialist art...

That´s a good point, desantnik. After extensive hours of Englishrussia sessions, I came to that same conclusion - lots of abandoned military, party or state buildings located in small towns show a lot of these "works".
