Naval Cap

Can anyone tell me the type and age of this cap. The star appears to have been added later. There are no markings other than someone appears to have painted their name on the inside but it is too faded to make out. Thanks for your time.

Hi Jim, welcome to the forum. A naval fur cap like this is difficult to date, but I'd say 1970's/1980's from the photo. I had a very similar one in my collection many years ago when i was in college and it was dated 1970; it had the leather top and a nice older officers cap badge.

Thanks Doug, I am glad this forum is out here. I have to confess I am having a hard time ID'ing and dating Soviet stuff.

Hi jim,

most soviet stuff is not that difficult to date, but the cap you posted can be really difficult; it might even be just a civilian cap, it might be navy of almost any decade : )

If you have any other items to post, we can usually be more specific in helping.
