I also have that insignia in a shoulderboard of a gymnastiorka previously shown on a thread. Someone(I don't remember right now) told me that it was for Air force technicians.

This one is a technician. There's also one for air technician.

So this would be for a ground person.

Rusty.

Hi gentlemen, I'd like to summit you some details questions to complete this thread.
When this lappel insignia disapeared on M69 uniforms?
For an air force technician, does he need always this insignia on lappels, + the hammer and wrench in silver on shoulderboards+ the aluminium winged H&W?
Do you know regular combinations of these insignias? (a 1988 photo of a book is coming, but not sharp enough about this).

Thanks, Sébastien

This insignia is for the Aviation Engineer-Technical Service (inzhenerno-technicheskoi sluzhby v aviatsii). I know of no other collar tab insignia for flight personnel Rusty so I think this is for both. However, flight crew members of this service would also have the aluminium engineer-technician wings on their uniform but most were indeed ground based personnel.

The first collar tab (and a sleeve patch) were created in 1942 (by NKO [People's Commissariat of Defence] decree #23). It also exists in the M1955, M1958 and M1969 uniform regulations. It does not appear to exist in the M1988 ones. However, as there are many ones of clearly late manufacture around I expect that they existed until 1988 (or maybe 1985).

I have seen these on boards too so I expect that anything worn on collar tabs would be worn on boards by the same person - although not on the same uniform - the princliple was generally one set of such insignia on collar tabs OR boards as appropriate to the uniform type. This usually meant that they are seen on shirt boards only.
