Organization Awards
Sometime in the '70s or '80s the government awarded a Lenin to the aircraft builders of the Moscow military district. There was also, for managers or key technicians at certain levels, a desk souvenir in recognition of their contribution in winning that award.
I recently purchased one of those desk souvenirs. It has a flat base into which is inserted a removable disk. The disk has a design in the shape of an older Mig (Mig-21?) and a replica of the Lenin. There is writing on the front and back saying that it was awarded to the aircraft builders of the Moscow military district. Sure, it's not the award itself, but I think it is an interesting piece. |

Order of the Red Banner of Labour awarded to what is today the St. Petersburg State University of Technology & Design.
The wall plaque of the award is still present at the entrance of the building. The St. Petersburg State University of Technology & Design has been founded on 28 November 1828, as the Practical Institute of Technology. Later under the Soviet era, the Institute became the "Textile Institute" in a new location, the actual one. In June, 1963 the Institute received a new name, "the Leningrad Institute Textile and Light Industry it. S.M.Kirova". It has been awarded, in March 1976, the Order of the Red Banner of Labour. In 1992 the status of institute changed again. It is transformed to the St. Petersburg State University of Technology and Design. Today, it represents a university complex, with activities very wide in terms of design : products and design linked to textile, but not only : spatial environment, advertising, arts and crafts... I don't know the exact reason of the awarding of the Order, but academic achievements, or a specific successful design, could be the reason. Cheers. Ch. Academician Pilyugin Centre (Moscow) specializes in the field of guidance, navigation and motion control systems for missiles and spacecraft, and is the head designer and manufacturer of control systems for missile complexes, launch vehicles, upper-stages and spacecraft.
The history of the Centre started on 13 May 1946, when, by the Resolution of the USSR Government on the development of missile technology, a number of enterprises has been emerged, including NII-885. Its main challenge became designing the control systems for various types of missiles. At the same time the Board of Chief Designers was formed under the leadership of Sergei Korolyov. Nikolai A. Pilyugin entered the Board as the Chief Designer of control systems. From 1974 to 1988 the Institute designed the control system for the space shuttle "Buran". In 1997, to perpetuate the memory of Nikolai A. Pilyugin, the founder and continuous leader of the Institute for 36 years, the Government of Russian Federation had reformed the Institute into the State unitary enterprise "Academician Pilyugin Scientific-Production Centre of Automatics and Instrument-Making". The Centre has been rewarded with the Order of Lenin and the Order of October Revolution. There is a Museum in the Centre, which covers the main events of the Centre's history. The central section (pic) is dedicated to Nickolai Pilyugin. Ch. Last edited by CtahhR; 06-12-2013 at 05:54 AM. |

This document belongs to my old friend Igor Pak. There is amazing story behind this orderbook. On summer 2002 Igor decided to buy Red Banner with original presentation box. He bought one almost for a song (15 USD or so). When he came home, he took the order out and there was red velvet bedding on the bottom of the box. He removed the bedding and underneath... oh, my... was this booklet. I bet neither the person who sold this order to a dealer nor a dealer himself didn't know about this little hiding-place :yow
That was a moment we call "collector's luck"... This order was given to the Factory of Electronical equipment in the city of Nalchik (North-Caucasian region). |

For weapon developments the KBP Instrument Design Bureau was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution and the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. KBP employees won 5 Lenin Prizes and 24 State Prizes of the USSR and the Russian Federation.
The KBP Instrument Design Bureau State Unitary Enterprise is one of the leading design companies in the Russian defense industry. It has developed over 130 models of weapons and military equipment, which were put into series production and introduced in service with the Russian Army. The KBP history begins in 1927, since the establishment of the first research and design organization of small arms — the Small Arms Design Bureau at the Tula-based Armory Plant. At present KBP represents a high-capacity research and production center that creates the state-of-the-art precision-guided weapons.
