Badge "60 Years Of Moscow State Institute Of Foreign Relations University".

This is an interesting newer type of pin/badge for the 60th anniversary of the MGIMO (Moscow State Institute of Foreign Relations - University). Actually, the pin is more confusing that the history of the university whose name has evolved, I think, at least once. Since for some reason my search function won't let me find any of my posts with the graduation badges of this university/institute, I don't have any reference photos for the graduation badges. The fact is, I no longer know what a graduation badge from MGIMO really looks like. I may have one, but I'm not sure anymore because of some bad information I got a while back from a noted Jersey seller.

Anyway, this pin is just about 2.5cm across and when I saw the Western-style clasp pin back, I had my doubts, but the MMD mint mark (the tiniest version I have ever seen) made it all right. It must be a post-Soviet piece, but since I'm not sure when MGIMO officially came into existence.

If anyone has a grad badge from this institution, please post a picture or two here so I can be sure of what I have - and many thanks in advance.

Nice pin, Phillip. According to their site, 1944 is generally considered to be their first year, and they have been awarded the status of university in 1994.

Thanks. I have a very intense (and personal reason) for collecting anything from this institution. I'm not surprised at all that this was made in 1994. Many of the smaller commemorative pins had this type of clasp - I guess it is easier on the clothing and parts are cheap and plentiful. I was just impressed that the MMD had anything to do with it.

Thanks Marc. Anyone know or have photos of the actual graduation badge from MGIMO? What I thought was one turned out to be a "Friendship of Nations" university badge - though it was still part of the diplomatic corps.

As far as I know, RUDN is a university catering to students from formerly "friendly nations", and is not focused on diplomatic studies.

That was a post-Soviet change I assume. They just have one of the coolest-looking grad badges of the rhombus style - to me anyway..
