I didn't understand your sentence Alexei...do you mean you don't understand why Andropov is put amongst great figures of russian History?
It is quite difficult to realize indeed, at least from a western side...

Sebastien,

I am sorry, I was doing 10 things at a time as always.

Other guys in this company belong to "ancient" history, so I was surprised to see Andropov amongst them. Besides I can understand an Order of Peter the Great, who was a great reformer, or Lomonosov, but Andropov, I don't know...

please do not apologize, my understanding of english is not so good...
Anyone does know the proportion of russian citizens who think Andropov could have been the great reformator of the USSR despite of his repressive tasks?

I thought it was my bad English :)

I would say the proportion should be pretty high. As problems in the Russian economy mount many people start thinking about the recent past as of "good old days" and wondering what would've happened with the country if Andropov didn't die so soon.

Hmmmm. Questionable quality, but I guess that's to be expected. I don't understand why they felt the need to include "Russian Federation" and "Order of Andropov" on the back. Hopefully if you win one you'll know what it is and where its from...

I doubt seriously if an "order" would be dedicated to what basically turned out to be a transitional head of state. I'm not questioning the accomplishments Yuri Andropov had made that caused his election in the first place but, from a realistic standpoint, no one heard much about him prior to his becoming head of state, and there wasn't much said about him after. In my opinion, Leonide Brezhnev was of a stature (and granted, he certainly created most of that "stature") that would more rate an "order"- and I've certainly never seen one for him.

Here is some information about the order:
Issued by All-Russian public organization "Academy of the Problems of Safety, Defense and Law". - the public association of scientists for study and generalization of the achievements of world and domestic science, on the assistance to the development of scientific and technical, social and economic progress and the practical use of its achievements in the security interests, defense and law.
Order of Andropov rewarded citizens for the selfless act, courage, courage and heroism, perfected with the performance of military, official and civic duty, and also, for the successful accomplishment of special and secret objectives. For the high achievements in the state, scientific research, social, public and charitable activities, which made it possible to essentially improve the conditions of life of people. For the merits in training of the highly skilled personnel, training the growing up generation, maintenance of legality and law. Order rushes on the right side of breast.
