Medal "Blue Planet Star".

RKO? That's what the calligraphy looks like near the bottom.

"Through the thorns to the stars"? The seller claims it's a 1998 "Mega Rare Soviet Russian Space Medal 'Blue Planet Star'" - "The medal was instituted by Federal Space Agency of Russian Federation in 1998. The medal "Blue Planet Star" is awarded for raising public awareness of the cosmonautics concepts, high performance in specialists training, and significant achievements in environmental protection and ecology"

I can't make out all of what the reverse says, but it doesn't all seem like Russian to me. I get "Russian Space Agency" - but shouldn't there be a "Russian Federation" somewhere in the name? Besides, the hanger looks more Ukrainian than anything else, as do a couple of the other medals the seller says are "Soviet Russian.":thumbsdown

Anybody ever even seen one of these?

Phillip

Re: Non-Russians in Space?

Phillip
Here is the page from the book (Catalog) Omelko "Space Exploration Awards" part II
The description is absolutely correct. The suspension is not blue, it has colors of the flag of Russian Federation (it can be different). The award is 100% original.
The reverse says : "RUSSIAN SPACE AGENCY"
The obverse: "THROUGH THORNS TO THE STARS" and letters "RKA" (Russian Space Agency). Russian Space Agency is a former Federation of Cosmonautics of the USSR.

The seller (it's me) says Soviet Russian to have better search results.
The medal is Russian Federation.

Re: Non-Russians in Space?

Well Eric, it's not the first time, and probably won't be the last, but I stand corrected.:o Please accept my apologies. I need better access to books with current RF medals.

No apologies. Your questions were reasonable, and I am glad I was able to provide some information.:)
BTW, the Omel'ko books are very interesting and useful. I believe they are for sale on eBay now.
If you collect Space - I would strongly recommend to buy them.
