Star of Friendship of Nations
(Stern der Völkerfreundschaft)

Established on the 20th August 1959, awarded to individuals for exceptional merit who had contributed to the "understanding and friendship between nations and preservation of peace".

The Star of Friendship of Nations was awarded in three classes:

1st Class - Grand Star of Friendship of Nations in Gold (Großer Stern der Völkerfreundschaft in Gold)
2nd Class - Star of Friendship of Nations in Gold (Stern der Völkerfreundschaft in Gold)
3rd class - Star of Friendship of Nations in Silver. (Stern der Völkerfreundschaft in Silber)
It was awarded on the recommendation of the presidency of the Council of Ministers (Präsidiums des Ministerrates) via the chairmen of the Council of State (Vorsitzenden des Staatsrates) or in its name.

This Order could have been a really beautiful award. Imagine what the Imperial German, Russian, or Soviet jewelers could have made of this. Think of the enamel work and the multiple gold &/or silver parts. But what we get is a collective piece of diecast costume jewelery. :dissapoint

As an update to this thread. There were six former MfS officers who were presented this award.

Pretty much just like the rest of GDR awards, IMO.
