The Medal for Defender of Country was instituted on the 8th October 1999 by the President of the Republic of Ukraine.
Awarded for participation in the liberation of Ukraine from the fascists or the defence of the state's interests and security.

regards Eddie.

Is it an award for veterans of the GPW only or does the last amendment also include later efforts? I got it mounted to a uniform which is post-Soviet Ukraine era and it seems strange.

Re: Medal "Defender Of The Fatherland".

Do we have any confirmed examples of awards of this medal to non-WWII vets?

Here is a later - not serial numbered - Document to Roza Evsejivna Levenberg.

There are at least 4 variations on the document.

Medal for Defender of Country

Hi Tretov,

I dont think this Medal is just for the GPW.
Included in the criteria is "or for the defence of the state's interests and security". So also for exploits after the Soviet break-up.

The other Medal, Veteran of the Patriotic War is just for veterans of the GPW.

Regards Eddie.
