Stalins tiddy whities
The first shot is the genaralisimmo (sp?) uniform. He used that unique collar insignia that was later used by the air force generals in 1949.
The second is the regular summer white M1943 for a marshal of the ussr with blue trousers. I sold one like this, with hat, for Budenny awhile back; it could be worn with either blue or white pants. the white pants did not have the stripes though and were very rare. They also had a white M1954 uniform; i think that was the last time generals had a dedicated white uniform. dd |

Doug,
In 1949 didn't air force generals recive the new open necked double breasted uniform? I am not aware of a tunic design that incorporated the design you mention for air force generals in 1949. If there was do you have any photos of this tunic? The uniform you mention for Budenny, I actually have an original photograph of Budenny wearing a white uniform along with several other generals taken in 1947. Also, did'nt the M1954 tunic come with white trousers and a white cap cover? I am not sure that dark blue trousers were worn with this uniform. |

Questions...
I have to assume the Gagarin uniform is custom done as I have no record of it. Who knows.
The M1949 air generals uniform was open collared, but had those ugly collar tabs with the buttons, like on stalins closed collar M1943 GSM tunic. I have had in 2 M1954 generals white uniforms (still have one for sale) and both had the blue trousers / breeches. The white pants were worn with the M1940 white uniform ( see photo; bad cap cover), but very rarely seen after the M1943 uniform, if at all. DD |

Doug,
Your note about the M1954 uniform is interesting...I have read in the regulations that there were white trousers issued for wear with this uniform and also a white cap cover....was it the case that they were simply discarded in preference for the dark blue trousers? I see what you mean about the collar patches but were'n they present on all M1943 general and officer greatcoats? How much do you want for white tunic? Please PM me and we can discuss it. |

whites...
I bet the white pants were issued, but did not see wide spread use. Thats my guess, but who knows.
Yes, the M1943 overcoats and raincoats had the button type collar tabs, though not the same size. The M1949 air generals uniform was thie first to use them on actual tunics. Its another reason that the M1945 VP uniform for air generals is so rare; unlike army generals, air generals had to give theirs up in 1949. The white tunic left for Mr.Caza this morning, sorry. DD |

Doug,
Hey. The M40 Major-General of Tank Forces tunic left on its way to me (I hope). Not the M1954 white tunics you said above that you still had. I think the M54 is what Vikingraider/Ciaran was expressing an interest in. Shawn |

Yes Doug, Shawn is right. It is the M1954 tunic that I am interested in.

Sorry, the snow here in April has...
..me confused.
yes, i still have the white M1954; i'll post a photo here. yes, SC, Lizzy is on his way to you with the cavalry general. should have it late next week. As for air generals VP uniforms, it seems to be a 10/1 ratio. I have only had in 3 VP air generals ( the one below being the best) and one VP air marshal. I have had in about 35 army generals VP uniforms. DD |
