Glory III,402790,Platoon Commander,90th Separate Scout Company,180th Rifle Division

I just received this beauty from PJS. I am beyond happy. I went ahead and bought a nice VoG medal to go with it.

Can anyone read the name?

I went through all possibilities on podvignaroda in an attempt to research this when it was offered for auction and after looking though HUNDREDS of results came to the conclusion that this is not listed on the "site". It may be in the future.

I believe if it were listed the auction results may have been different but not necessarily.

I don't know if a single documented item could be classed as a "group" even though it is extremely unlikely that someone was awarded an Order "Glory" and not a VOG although it is not impossible due to administrative error.

Here is the original citation. Awarded 15th May 1945.

Wow! This is huge! Thank you very much. I need to get it translated now.

I will post the results once I find out what other awards he has and have the citation translated.

No other awards. No VOG listed nor OPW'85.

In short:
he was a commander of a reconaissance squad sent on the night 25/26 April 1945 to scout and capture a "tounge" (enemy soldier whou would provide information). They entered enemy rear 5km deep. On their way back they met a groupof 25 enemy subamchinegunners, they destroyed them and took 3 prisoners.
Alas, I can't make out the geographical data.

I believe the 180th were in Hungary at the time.

It says (I think) "in the region of Zhemchapy [Zhemchapa being a nominative form?]".
Could be hungarian - original name may be something like Zsemcsapy or Zsemcsapa then

And btw. - I think that his function is given as "pomkom vzvoda" - so actually, he was a deputy platoon commander.

Very interesting! This keeps getting better. I was able to obtain his awards card, where it is present that other awards include the VoG, Vienna, and Budapest. This accounts for CtahhR's research of the unit being in Hungary.
