NKVD General's Visors.

The brim has some damage, but still a very rare cap. Has NKVD colors with generals embroidery, etc.

As promised--I am posting my NKVD 1943 general's cap. The lacquer on the brim is flaking off like nobody's business, but other than that, the cap is nearly perfect. Enjoy!

Hi Lee,

Nice cap, I'm jealous :p

Are you sure it's a M43? I personally would have thought M45, but then again, I am not too knowledgeable in this area. Could you please explain why it is an NKVD cap? I would have thought infantry as it is wave-blue with red piping.

Marc

Hi Marc, no it is actually a 1943 parade cap, as the NKVD 1945 caps were Tsarist (excuse me, comrade, "Wave") Green under orders of Beria. (Did I get that right, Doug?) Doug Drabik had this posting earlier which describes the 1943 NKVD uniform in detail:

Thanks Lee, the color really got me confused. Looking at Doug's pictures, I see that it is of a very different shade of blue.

Yeah, that's my digital camera again, I think. The blue is deeper than seen in the pics here.

Another

This one just came in; I have had in three M1943 parade NKVD generals caps, but this is the first M1940 NKVD Generals service cap I have had in. Great shape, some wear.

Wow, the 1940 cap is dramatically less frilly than the 1943 or 1945. I guess 1940 was well before Mr Stalin allowed any sort of Tsarist-influenced nationalism to seep into the uniforms.

Thanks for sharing Doug! It's always a pleasure to see your latest findings.

cap

Remeber, there was no per se NKVD M1945 generals cap ( used the same as army). As for the frilly M1943 one, its the same as the M1940, but since its parade it has the embroidery; the M1940 was worn as the non parade cap from 1940 until 1945.

Hey Doug,
The 1940 you have posted has that 'squared-off' brim you see most of the time. My nkvd 1943 and army 1945 parade caps have more rounded-off brims. I've seen some other parade caps with the squared off brim, but I've never in my recollection seen any non-parade caps with a rounded brim. Was there some sort of manufacturing spec (or lack thereof) for brims that the war-era Soviets used?
