I have an amusing story regarding this group, I asked for a Bogdan 3rd class and got asked would I like its accompanying medals and awards book for 100 dollars extra.

Was I glad I said yes.

I think I´ll better not talk about my awards, but I have a 1955 parade "Zhukov" Uniform. I receintly added to it an OGPW and a Red Star. Here´s a pic:

Yes, this one is closer to what real ones look like. type 2 should be relatively low number, somewhere in the 1XX-3XX range, right?
Good start, I'd research it if I were you - low numbered 2nd class is most probably a general's award - at least, all of mine are.
Cheers,

Alex.

Yes, this one is a low number (319).

It still looks better in person!

My next purchase is a HSL group from 1947 with matching Lenin and all paperwork and boxes for both awards!

Doug,

I often find those groups with photos are by far the most interesting. We all know what the medals look like, it's the documents and photos and other stuff, which, IMHO, makes a set interesting.

BTW, what are the last two medals/badges shown here? I reconize all the rest, but not these two.

Kind Regards,
Shane Cook.

Crown Jewels

Hi Shane.....

The last two medals are Republic of Georgia medals. They were awarded for this man's outstanding contributions in the construction field. I am in the process of having the award docs translated now.

This man is one of about 212 Georgians who received the HSU.

Thanks...............

I am not an orders and medals guy, but in my own area:

- M1924 uniform of a "lieutenant-general" of the OGPU (state security) which consists of "French" tunic, hat and original silver two-piece "X Anniversary of the Cheka-OGPU" badge. The tunic is dated 1929 and is the only known OGPU general's tunic around (unless someone knows of one I haven't heard of). The actual rank is "Senior Inspector of the Chief Inspectorate of the OGPU" as there officially were no Soviet general's until 1940.

- M1943 service uniform of Marshal of the Engineering Troops Vorobyev, the first Soviet Marshal of the Engineers and head of the Red Army Engineers from 1942 till after the war.

- M1945 Victory Parade uniform to a Major General of the Engineer Troops with tunic, hat and proper M1943 parade belt.

- two genuine KGB identification booklets, one to a Major from 1958 and one to a Colonel (head of a Directorate of the Latvian KGB) from 1990/1991. Both are part of sets which come with other IDs and award documents.

- set of WWII Red Army maps, there are four maps each consisting of several 1:100,000 scale maps sheets pasted together (they range from 3 to a massive 16 sheets). The maps are marked with regular, red, blue, black and orange pencil marks showing the operations of the 4th Guards Tank Army in the early phases of the Berlin operation and then in the Prague operation in April and May 1945.

No one should ever feel reluctant to talk about their "crown jewels". We all start somwehere. Eleven years ago my list was:
- 1983-dated airborne (VDV) beret
- M1969 air force officer's parade hat
- post-war Order of the Red Star
- KGB Border Guard private's shoulder boards
- Victory over Germany medal.

When my collection was...

...still intact my best items were:

-M1945 Victory Parade uniform of Marshal Voroshilov

-M1943 NKGBGenerals parade tunic

-M1943 frock coat to Admiral Kuznetzov

-M1940 generals parade unifom, complete

-M1945 Victory Parade general uniform with documents and photos and other stuff to a named NKVD general

-M1945 Rifle Divisional Standard with write up (thanks to SC)

Now, I am down to stuff I can store (my war-room used to have 30 mannequins in it) without using up much space. My best item is a HSU awarded in 1944 with its award box, and all three of its documentsplus photos and items of the owner. I have one M1945 VP General, complete ( used to have 16!) and my Civil War unit flags.
