Of the 6th Guards Rifle Regiment, 2nd Guards Red Banner Rifle Division

August 30, 1943 – Nr. 029/N – Active Army, Northcaucasian Front

On behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, I award:

The Bravery Medal to:

1. Guards Private Mikhail Matveyevich Butovchenko, machine gunner in the 1st Machine Gun Company of the 6th Guards Rifle Regiment, 2nd Guards Red Banner Rifle Division, for the fact that he, during the fighting for height 167.4 in the Krim Raion of the Krasnodar Krai on August 7, 1943, while serving as layer of a mounted machine gun, acted bravely and energetically. During the attack he supported the advance of the riflemen from an open position. Having quickly noticed an enemy machine gun position, he suppressed its fire with his machine gun, enabling the attacking troops to advance forward. When the machine gun crew was put out of action by a shell explosion, comrade Butovchenko continued firing on his own and entrenched himself and his machine gun in a captured enemy trench.

Born in 1924, member of the Komsomol since 1939, Russian, drafted by the Military Commissariat of the Temirgoyevskaya Raion, not decorated, home address: _______________.
