Short description of personal combat feat or accomplishment

While in an assault group during the forced river crossing of the Dniepr river on 15 October 1943 in the Lo(?)vskii Region (Gomel Oblast), he was one of the first to cross to the western shore of the river. While under heavy, enemy machine gun fire he was the first into an enemy trench line and in hand-to-hand combat killed five Germans with his submachine gun, causing a machine gun crew to flee and subsequently capturing them.
He is deserving of the Order of the Red Star Signed Commander, 120 Rifle Regiment, Colonel (?) in October 1943
