OGPW 2class--mint mistake?
Today I received this OGPW 2class with the serial number 684952.
The "4" looks to be changed. But I think no one can fake the number with changing only one digit. So I think it maybe a mint mistake. What you think about this? |

doubleeagle,
Sometimes, when owners sells their awards, they alter serial number so nobody can track them back to the award. May be this is the case. |

Wouldn't it be easier to just erase the whole number? I have seen that on several awards, including OGPW and Red Banners. Perhaps someone made a "less successful" attempt to make the award fit into a present award book? |

Thanks thekodex and Tretov
The guy was so lucky if he could make the order to fit into the award book with changing only one digit. But maybe nothing is impossable :p Best regards Last edited by doubleeagle; 07-06-2005 at 08:14 PM. |

DoubleEagle,
That's a pretty poor engraving job they did with that "4", and not in the style of the Mint's numbering. Marc |

need advise on ogpw 2nd
Hi to you all.
I need advise on an order I´m thinking on buying. It´s an order of great patriotic war with stickpin and suspension devise. It´s Type 1 var 1 on a 2nd class. The order is ok in all aspects and in good condition except an enamel damage on the right stararm.(nearly all enamel gone). Price is 5000USD. Is this a good price or a market price today? I would like to have some views on the price. It´s hard to find anything to compare with. Please vote! Best

I would deffinitely want it to be authenticated before I spent that much money. Can the seller organise that with Mr McDaniel?
Just my two pence....

I just wanted to express my opinion on this OPW2. I had a chance to hold this order and compare with another piece from my collection s/n 2350 that is represented on site Mondvor and has Paul's certificate. These two specimens are completely identical. My order is about the same condition and was bought four years ago and was priced at $1,500. Considering that average prices on rare Soviet awards have grown up 4-6 times since that time, the price of $5,000 doesn't seem high at all. Also, It's much easier to find 2nd and 3rd classes of high Soviet orders rather than this variation of OPW2.

This is a very nice looking example from the photo. Seems complete in every way. And oh how the price makes us long for the good old days as buyers!!!!
I have #7213. But mine was obviously field converted to screwback then back to it's hanger later so the stickpin is gone. By the look of it the screwback plate from the hanger was soldered on to the back of the order , the ring was not cut off though and later this was removed to remount it to a hanger. When I got it 3 years ago I paid $175.00 for it. Ron |
