The book covers a broad spectrum of awards, qualification badges and hat devices issued by the Russian and Soviet railway authorities. The timeframe is equally broad, starting with the Imperial period, continuing through the Soviet era and ending with the railway badges of the modern Ukraine.

This extremely detailed work includes statutes and laws concerning the railway awards, historical changes in the administration of railways, biographies of all Soviet Transportation Ministers and Narkoms, and much more. There is even a chart of railway ranks and shoulder boards introduced in 1943.
