You misunderstood. RUSSIAN IMPERIAL AWARDS WERE NOT ALLOWED! It was even dangerous and risky to wear them, especially if they were officer’s awards. Often people tried to hide the fact they served as officers in imperial army. They were considered to be potential hidden enemies, because most of those imperial officers fought against Bolsheviks during Civil war. Only award that was tolerated (unofficially, not by regulations) was soldier St. Cross and was wearied mostly by soldiers not by high rank officers of Soviet Army even if they received them for World War I. Ribbons for such awards did exist because regulation didn’t allow to wear them.

Those orders are:
1.HSU, Order of Lenin, 4orders of the red banner, Orders of Suvorov, Kutozov, Khmelnitski - among other - but what he have on his neck? - Hero Of Yugoslavia
2. And last: what is the order on his pocket???? – Mongolian Order for Military Valor

Anyone has any idea what this is or may be? Of course, I can always ask my Russian grandfather wear my orders of glory and pose for pictures... But this does not seem to be the case in this photo. The awardee's last name, as far as I know, is Hristenko.

I hope somone has the Cavalir's of order of glory books, and that the name is correct. Also, he is a HSL, so it will help. As all of us know, the order of glory was not awarded for the 4th time.

I think there is a possibility that the man in the picture is wearing an order that was not awarded to him, maybe to a member of his family - as an honour to a veteran who died (?). Of course, if that is the case it is against the regulations.

Another possible explanation is that this man is a cavalier who lost one of the awards, got a duplicate order and later found - and wear - the original.

Or - he was entitled to become HSU, but due to beraucracy was awarded - by mistake - another order of glory. This hypothesis is unlikely, but we do know about cases when person was to be awarded HSU gold star medal and instead got the order of glory, 1st class.

Mahdi, could you check the exact name of this veteran? From what web site - if at all - you got the picture?

heres a question were in genaral would a party badge be worn on the uniform or were they worn on the uniforms at all??thanks for any help you can give me:)

thanks a million that was weee i kinda thought it should go but i wasnt sure,oh and as for that admiral i wouldnt want to be near him if he fell into the sea with all thouse medals on!!!!

Great ideas. If I were to choose, I think that the most convincing possibility would be: the veteran was issued an order of Glory, lost it somehow and got a duplicate, then the original one was found somehow. I do not have the Glory Cavaliers book, neither do I have the Heroes of USSR book... Planning to invest in them soon, though. Maybe Eugene can help us out? The last name, as far as I know, is Hristenko (if you have cyrillic fonts on your computer, this is how it would be in Russian: Õðèñòåíêî). I got this picture from a friend in mine, who is a collector in Russia, who found the picture in some publication he came across. Let's what others may have to say?

Hi Guys,

There were only 4 Hero-Cavaliers awarded during the GPW ( see Henry Sakaida's excellent article this month ) and this guy isn't one of them, so he was awarded the title of Hero after the war sometime.

I received my set of the Heroes books from Eugene a few days ago. I tried looking up his last name, but I am embarrassed to admit I don't even know what the Russian equivalent is for the letter "H". If you guys can help me out I'll try finding him. Also, remember the books were published 1987-88. If he was awarded later we are out of luck. Given the Cavalier awarding, I'd think we are safe.

Art - thanks for doing the researching! I attached an image file that has his last name written in Russian. It could be written in other ways, but this is the most likely one (I also never saw it in cyrillics and am translating it from the English name that I had). Hope you find something, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I found him in the Cavalier of the Order of Glory book - page 616. His name is Vasiliy Timofeevich Hristenko, Russian, Born in 1925, joined the party in 1945, joined the Red Army in 1943, and was demobilized in 1956. As you guys know, my interpreting is slower than paint drying but it looks like he in fact, received two 3rd classes (2/22/44 & 11/4/44) as well as a 2nd (1/24/45) and the 1st class (5/15/46). He was awarded the Hero of Labor in 1972. I can interpret this article by this weekend but hopefully, one of our Russian-speaking members can step in and bail me out.
