Al-muell, is the literal translation "Wellington Boots"? If so, I find that quite amusing as they are commonly known as "Wellies" over here in the UK. I thought Wellington boots, named after the British general Lord Wellington, were a uniquely British thing. :chuckle

No, the russian word is "galoshi". I am used to calling this kind of boots "wellington boots". At least for the last 10years I've been tought it's the proper term. Shall I change it to "rubber boots"?

In Finland, the "galosh" refers to a cloth/rubber cover that you put outside black shoes to prevent them from getting wet or dirty when the weather and temperature outside calls for it.

Rubber boots is what we wear when doing garden work.

That's interesting - would definately look better.
My russian-polish dictionary (a big one) gives only one translation of word "galoshi" and it's polish "kalosze", which is "wellington (or rubber) boots" and nothing else.
But I have checked russian dictionary and it gives both meanings (rubber or leather low footwear worn over boots or shoes). Since the second meaning (the one you gave) seems to have more sense (I mean - both are possible, but rubber boots would really look strange), I will probably change it.
Any idea what english equivalent would be good here? "waterproof overboots?"

Thanks for pointing it out. If any of You notice anything else that seems to be wrong with my translation or any unclear phrases, please post them here.

The online encyclopedia Wikipedia gives this information (my translation from swedish)

Galosch (of the french word galoche), bottin and pampusch are names for related shoewear, used to cover other shoes (usually "nicer" shoes), to prevent these from being wet, dirty or worn.

English wikipedia even have a russian advertisement poster featured!
