Badge Of Honour,0012577,Head Of Department,Kirov Factory Leningrad,Winter War

Part of a broken group, but the research makes it interesting.

Order of the Badge of Honor, type 2, var. 4 -- 12577 -- 1940

Research has revealed that this is, in effect, a labor award for the Finnish War. He was a plant manager at the Kirovsky zavod (one of the largest and “most revolutionary” of the military factories in Leningrad). He received the Badge of Honor along with 1280 other workers from Leningrad for support of the front line troops during the Finnish War.

Thanks for sharing!
Could you post a photo of what look like research paperwork for a civil award like this?

Also, I am curious about what are the criteria for a civil award to be researchable. Must it be of GPW-era? Must it be specific type of award, or must it be documented, etc...?

I have a HSL and a documented OL I would like to get researched. They don't belong to each other and were awarded in 1962 for OL and 1970-1980s for the HSL.

So far, the only things on which I have had luck are GPW-era or earlier, and they must be documented (the name and date of award is the key, not the serial number of an orphaned award). And I should add that the researcher who helped me with these seems to have dropped completely off the face of the earth.

Let me dig out the stacks of poorly-Xeroxed newspaper selections and see if anything can be usefully scanned and posted.

The "broken" part -- a quite missing RBL, known only from the press (based on researched translation). Delightful in the tone.

Or did the press get get it wrong? They never do. Right?

The RBL part must be an error.

This is the decree awarding Sergeev's BoH:

Quote:
On awarding employees from enterprises and institutions in Leningrad

For successful activities and displayed initiatives in strengthening the defensive capacity of our country, the following are to be awarded:

[...]

With the Order of the Badge of Honor:

[...]

231. Sergeyev, Aleksei Karpovich - Head of a department of the Kirov Factory

[...]

Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR
M. Kalinin

Secretary of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR
A. Gorkin

Kremlin, Moscow. April 17, 1940.

Many thanks.

The mysterious (to me) transcription of the original article.

The chance that the translator "messed" up is certainly very real -- I know that from work that I have done.
