The cap itself is most likely good, but the leaves on the visor are mounted wrong. The should be along the edge of the visor, not in the center of it. Probably it is a standard cap that has been "upgraded" to a senior officers cap.

Cleber,

I agree with Tretov. The cap is a regular navy cap, probably 80's. The leaves were added and not set in the right position.

While still a novice, I have never seen a navy visor from any country that has the scrambled eggs in the middle of the visor.

Now, confessing my ignorance, i have seen a few similar visors around, but with the eggs on the edge of the visor. Are they indicative of captain rank and above?

Also, when you turn the cap over, are the eggs only secured with bent-over prongs? That is how I've seen them, but it looks so crude. I wondered how they are attached.

Tim,

The scrambled eggs were only found on parade caps. As you said, they were only secured with 3 sets of bent-over prongs each. As far as I know, I believe that they stopped being used in the 1960's or so.

What a shame that a perfectly good naval visor has been ruined by some idiot trying to earn an extra couple dollars on a sale. :(

Actually, the "scrambled eggs" were in use through the 1990s. I participated in a number of official and ship visits, and the senior Soviet Navy officers wore the "scrambled eggs."

Having a hat with these devices is a representative example of a senior officer's hat. I agree with other observatios made here that they were attached sloppily in entirely the wrong location. They do belong at the edge of the visor.

eggs

The brim decoration ,the "eggs", has nothing to do with parade or service caps, but rather with rank. Senior officers had it ( captian 3rd rank, 2nd rank, 1st rank), and jr. officers did not. They wore it on both the service and parade caps. The decoration to show difference between senior ranks and those below is common for most navies ( including the US) and is still in use for the Russian navy; It was in use for the red navy from at least 1940 until today.
