Re: Medal for Gallantry

While the reverse is boring, here are both sides.

Some sources suggest that there are two varieties of this medal (and that this is the second type). Personally, I don't believe this.

I have no idea at all and, frankly, I think there is only the one type (this one).

Will need to look through my notes . . .

May be an auction or dealer's list (never good sources, except for ONE auction on royalist Afghan ODM).

Copy of For Courage Medal

AFGHANISTAN MEDAL "FOR COURAGE" WITH DOCUMENT. COPY

Seen for sale on that auction site ....

Both items look pretty good. I wonder which item is the copy ... one or both?

:-(

Wow ... copies of DRA medals :-( Beware folks. Fortunately this seller clearly identity them as such.

Re: Medal for Gallantry

I've seen fakes of many of the Soviet period Afghanistan awards. Quality varies greatly. Some are being made in the Russian Federation supposedly to be awarded by "organisations" to veterans. Then you have some really poor cast bits and then the goodies from the "Baltic Mint".

The same caution should be taken with all awards from all nations and time periods. The fakers can often be so on the ball that fakes of awards surface before the real ones have actually been issued.
