Red Star,0161667,Commandant,Distribution Railway Station,Black Sea Military Group
Hi guys,
Here's a citation for the nice screwpost base Red Star in a set I have in my collection. Petr Borisovich Perchonok (Russified from his given name of Peysach Berkovich) was a staff officer and Commandant for military communications (railroad) operations in the Crimea. He served with the 56th Army/Separate Coastal Army, and finished the war a Major. He earned a few more awards during and after the war, but this early 1943 citation is his most dramatic. After the war, he worked as head of what I think was the district plumbing organization (южсантехмотомонтаж), in his native Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine. Thanks for reading! George Award Citation Last name, name and patronymic : PERCHONOK, Petr Borisovich Rank : Captain Duty: Military Commandant, Distribution Railroad Station # 36, Black Sea Military Group of the North Caucasus Front. As a Military Commissar of distribution railroad station # 36, Southern Front command assigned him with the task of loading and dispatching of echelon and distribution of cargo to the front, along the stations Lotsmanovskaya, Novo-Dnepropetrovskiy Node. Despite systematic raids by military aviation, Comrade Perchonok not only fulfilled his assigned duties, but organized railroad materiel and passing military units into the restoration of railroad tracks, separation of burning trains, and saving of wounded from burning hospital trains. In July of 1942, finding themselves encircled in station Millerovo, comrade Perchonok assumed command as Military Commandant and led his personnel from encirclement without losses. In August 1942, comrade Perchonok was appointed Military Commandant for his excellent work, and simultaneously acted as Military Commissar, undertaking a significant effort in distributing cargo going to the Black Sea Military Group of the North-Caucasus Front, loading and unloading on water. Comrade Perchonok is a good organizer. He has excellent knowledge of field operations of military railroads. He dedicates all his time and knowledge to improving the work of Military Commandant's Office and the strengthening of discipline of his personal staff. re: Red Star,Railroad Commandant,161667
Thanks gents. I really like Perchonok's story. The set came from Israel and I wonder if he had eventually immigrated there. Well, I guess his children could have as well.
The cool "honored railroader" badge was the only one that came without a document, so I am not sure if it belongs. It's WWII period (20,000s serial number) anyway. Btw, here's his 56th Army Veteran znachok as well--I assume the generic St George ribbon suspension is a replacement. George |
