Ministry Of Internal Affairs Identification.

Here is a 1999 dated MVD Georgia Identification to Police Colonel Revaz Archilovich Asatiani. Reunited with another document of his dated 1971 showing just how high he rose in the ranks over the 28 years period (no change).

Re: Ministry Of Internal Affairs Identification.

Nice finds, and good they were reunited, but it seems to me that his position changed from 1971 to 1999 - OK, he was still a colonel, but the Georgian doc states he is "<something> colaborator of the council of veterans" if I see correctly. I believe this means, that he was already retired for some time then. But maybe wrong.

What I find most interesting about this is no doubt he will have many Soviet awards (long service for example) but chooses only to wear the Georgian Medal "For Military Courage" (მედალი "მხედრული მამაცობისათვის") and Soviet Badge "Champion Of The Socialist Competition" (year unknown).

He might have a very impressive fruit salad bar under the badge.

Re: Ministry Of Internal Affairs Identification.

I'd expect that Medal's ribbon to be on his ribbon bar, if he were wearing one, rather than wearing the single Medal plus the bar underneath for an official photograph. If he had just been awarded it would be different however.

Re: Ministry Of Internal Affairs Identification.

This looks like a Lenin's centennial medal to me, which was worn on a service uniform above the ribbon bar.

It is the Georgian Medal "For Military Courage" (მედალი "მხედრული მამაცობისათვის"). It can be seen better "in person".

OK, so my guess would be that just like the Lenin medal it does not have a ribbon and is meant to be worn on service uniform.

Re: Ministry Of Internal Affairs Identification.

This Medal does have a normal "ribbon" for bars (as do all other Georgian Medals) but it would seem that he chose to ditch the Soviet awards apart from the Competition Badge for whatever reason. He should have been awarded the Lenin Centenary (being a Police Officer in 1970) but it is also missing.

I don't know if this was usual or unusual practice in the late 90's but Soviet awards are certainly not as popular after 2008.

???
Lenin 100th was to be worn on parade uniforms. I have never seen it worn on service uniform - only ribbon in the bar.
