Re: Badge help - Latin alphabet but Soviet?

I am not that familiar with the DDR history, but probably You are right - Kampfgruppen der Arbeiterklasse were (i think) also under SED control.

Re: Badge help - Latin alphabet but Soviet?

Were they aligned with the so-called "Secret Police" of the SB (SNB) or did they answer only to the top of the party? I'm not a big fan of any group's muscle, but they are part of the overall studies I am doing.

Yes, they were under direct control of the SED Central Committee and regarded as the "armed branch" of it.

And here´s something about the LM.

Re: Badge "People's Militia".

Managed to snag one of these with the document. Awarded on 20 February 1972 to Jaroslavu Pychovi.

Greg, I'm becoming increasingly interested in the documents for many of the awards (especially badges) I picked up in the mad rush from the late 1990s to, well until about a year ago when I realized I needed to know more about the "pretty things" I'd bought with only a seller description. Having said that, I find it hard to find documents only for items I already have in much better condition than the seller is putting up for sale as a set. I've found it easier to just look for folks/sites selling only documents (in fact, I believe there was one such document for sale here recently that when I saw you were the other bidder I just let it go. No point running up the price on a friend:)).

If you ever come across just the doc for this one, please let me know. I am not so active in hunting anymore as I am in simply cataloging and doing background on what I already have. Good find!

Re: Badge "People's Militia".

Damn Phil, now I feel bad at your ceding that doc to me... and while I certainly appreciate both the thought and act, I certainly don't make this a condition of friendship- man, our friendship goes back a ways!

Been dealing with a couple of sellers from Prague (on our favorite auction site) of late and, as you have noted, they like to sell the trinket with the doc. And, of course, if you already have the trinket you generally don't want to buy another. My solution: if the doc is worth it to you, go ahead and buy both items (as sold) and sell the extra trinket to try to make your money back. Hence, I'm going to be selling a number of trinkets at Ft. Lee on 24 May!:D

I came to the "doc table" a bit late as well and still have a long way to go insofar as getting docs for the awards I have (catch-up is a b*tch). Having said that, I'm certainly enjoying, and learning from, the chase. And so it goes...
