For Service To The Motherland In The Armed Forces Of The USSR.
These are weights of orders I've collected over the past 2 years. I'll post one thread for each award. All were weighed with the screwback off. I use a Pocket-Tech digital scale by Gram-Precision. Some were weighed over a year later to check the accuracy of my results and all were 100% accurate.
Order Name/Class-----Serial Number------Weight in grams Motherland Service 2c 1739 63.7 Motherland Service 3c 137729 62.8 Motherland Service 3c 138266 63.5

Order of Service to the Motherland in the Armed Forces Set
I was wondering if anyone can provide information concerning the "crab" 1st class. In various catalogs, I have learned that somewhere between 10-15 first class awards were issued as of 1991. Does anyone know if other 1st class awards have made it onto the market from the unissued stores after the USSR collapsed? Does anyone have a list of those that were awarded the 1st class order? Someone has offered me a full set, though I am naturally suspicious since so few first class orders were issued. The seller says he has the docs. to go with the awards--thus my interest in the full list of those awarded the order. I know that one person in the entire region of Odessa was awarded the full set. This set will come from Konigsburg.

According to Shishkov/Muzalevsky, those are the awardees of the 1st classe (and of course that make them Cavalires of the order):
1. V.A. Achalov, Col. General - 22.2.1990 2. G.F. Baidukov, Col. General - 25.5.1987 3. A.I. Borovsky, Col General - 27.12.1982 4. Veryovkin, Mg. General (no date) 5. I.G. Zavayalov, Col-General - 16.2.1982 (Awarded order number 1) 6. A.K. Kazakov, Captain - 27.12.1982 7. I.K. Kolodyazhny, Lt-General - 11.2.1982 8. G.K. Loshkaryov, Colonel - 17.5.1984 9. Y.M. Orlov, Colonel - 27.12.1982 10. V.A. Poroshin, Rear-Admiral - 16.2.1982 11. V.N. Sergeev, Vice-Admiral - 5.5.1989 12. V.P. Scherbakov, Mg-General - 11.2.1982 |

1st class in Vienna
There is one - unissued - 1st class in Vienna for about USD 1.300,- might be authentic, looks to me so at the 1st and 2nd sight - 2-digit-number somewhere around 50 (relayable dealer). No documents - of course. Too much money - I think.

just to clarify.
what i infer from your message is that there may be at least 35 1st class crabs that are out there that were not awarded to individuals, but were manufactured (i.e. real orders) and are now on the market after someone went and acquired the old, reserve stocks? |

There are many cases of un-awarded orders that are on the market. One common example is the order of personal courage.

I purchased a 2nd and 3rd class, unawarded and in pure and more than perfect mint-condition + original (faked entries) booklet for good money in Vienna - 2.213 + 128.584 - fresh from the mint.

If you are seriously interested in having an authentic 1st Class Service to Homeland, I would advise against any purchases without documents, regardless of how low the numbers. This is one of the easiest awards to fake. Stories vary from 30 to 150 unissued awards. Of course books can be faked too... so this is a very risky one.

By the sounds of it, to have documents, I will have to get one of the first twelve that were actually awarded as per the listing in this thread. All other first class orders that are out there (as you say, somewhere between 30-150) will not come with the issue documents. I will have to learn more from the seller (i.e. the name in the docs) to confirm if this is legit.

Easy to fake?
I don't know how difficult it is to engrave a new serial number with a rotating tool. If it would be possible to fake this perfectly, than there might be the danger, that the one or other full cavalier set from one of the 12 officers will occour at the market. Empty booklets are no problem and if they work carefully with the entries - you have a perfect set with full "research".
