National Flag Order II and III

Hello gentlemen,

I got two new north korean pieces, courtesy of my girlfriend.

I´d like to compare the the recent NF III with the first one I got (left and right, respectively). The latter is worn (So I suppose earlier), while the one on the left is almost mint (later). It has some kind of dirt on enamel, brighter than the blood red enamel of the right.
The early type is three piece construction (star, roundel and body.), shown in the last picture.

Note the reverses: Early type has a mirror reverse and no space for serial number. The earlier, however, shows a more solid reverse, no rays, and a small line and a "L" next to the small line to denote serial number inscription.

Now, here comes the question: Which period are these types?

Re: National Flag Order II and III

NF II class, with a very nice finish. Note the 4-piece construction. As well as the III class that came with it, it´s a mirror reverse variation and has no serial number, nor the line to engrave it.

Order Of The National Flag 2nd Class Construction

I took apart an early(ish) National Flag Order 2nd Class to see how it was constructed and whilst it was in bits I thought 'd take some photos to share with the forum. This is a Riveted Pin Back type #30230. There are arrows on the two largest parts indicating which way they were to be attached to each other. I had some fun putting it back together again I can tell you!

That's pretty cool! But you should add a disclaimer: "Kids, please don't try this at home." ;)

The taking apart is easy.... and no sharp bits... Putting it back together takes a lot longer and it could be easier to get frustrated and throw the pieces away. I may take some other pieces apart if I get curious again. I've taken some awards apart in my time including a Bulgarian Order Of 13 Centuries Of Bulgaria, which is how I found out they are all numbered just not anywhere that you can see without pulling them apart. "It was a great party until someone found a hammer".

I have a nice collection of numbered National Flag orders (Mainly 3rd Class) and does anyone out there know what order the numbering went when their was a (raised factory made) letter prefix? I Currently only have National Flag Orders 1st Class with numerals only but I have 2nd Classes with numerals only and then also with the prefix ㄴ. When it comes to 3rd Class, I have some serial numbers that are only numerals and then the prefixes: ㄴ, ㄷ, ㅂ, ㄹ, ㅇ, ㄱ and also the Latin or Cyrillic A. Do the letter prefixes go in Korean consonant order? and where on earth does a raised A go in the table of events?

After a great deal of research number ordering is as such.

National Flag Order 1st Class Numbered 1-99999 then unnumbered.
National Flag Order 2nd Class Numbered 1-99999 then ᄂ1-99999 then unnumbered.
National Flag Order 3rd Class Numbered 1-99999 then ᄂ1-99999 then ㄷ1-99999 then ㄹ1-99999 then ᄆ1-99999 then ㅂ1-99999 then ᄉ1-99999 then ㅇ1-c110000 then unnumbered.

Not the right thread perhaps, but here's a documented National Order of Flag 2nd class, soviet screwback, number in 5K range... WITH a booklet... including a photograph... awarded to a (Bela)russian in 1957. Acquired this one in Minsk (of all places!).

Left side top to bottom:
kind of award, class, no., date awarded, signature of person awarding
Second line: Order of the Flag 2nd Class, #5634, Awarded on 1957.10.31

Right side top to bottom:
Regulations for award
Regulations for the 1st,2nd and 3rd class of the Order of the Flag
Persons who are awarded the Order of the National Flag receive the following;
First Class Order:
1. They can receive free tickets for train, ship, electric transport(?), and all public vehicles
2. Will receive 1200 Won per year
3. Upon reaching 55 years old for men or 50 years old for women or lose the ability to work they will receive retirement pay as per regulations
Second Class Order:
1. Will receive 900 Won per year
2. They can receive free tickets for train and electric transportation
3. Same as #3 for 1st class
Third Class Order:
1. Will receive 600 Won per year
2. They can receive free tickets for electric transportation

Left side:
Name of person receiving award
247919: Number of the award (i.e. serial number)

Right Side:
Name: Sausenin Grigory Petrovich (Loose translation. It messed my guy up with it not being a Korean name)
Location of Hometown: Blank
Location of awarding: Blank
Occupation: Advisor to the Chief of the public hospital system

Re: DPRK Award Documents.

Is there a date for this award? Have you tried to research him through the Soviet archives?
