Navy Guards badge
This rare badge is being auctionned off. I find that the badge looks too good to be authentic. Opinions please?

Danny,
Ribbon is replacement, and the suspension sure looks very new for something that was worn on a daily basis. Marc |

According to what I read, this badge ceased to be issued in 1943 IIRC and replaced with the standard Guards badge? Plus for the asking price, it is just too good to be true. The ribbon is new, the suspension looks new and I'm not sure the screw is original to this badge.

Guys,
Sorry for my silly question as I never saw this Badge before, but the Badge itself consists only on the metal suspension and a cloth ribbon? That's it?! Thanks, Dolf |

That's right. Originally, they used the Nevsky and the OPW suspensions.

Thanks Marc. With the construction, it would be very easy to fake them. The seller replied to my question of authenticity: He doesn't know. Good enough for me.

Yes, it would be easy to fake. Now, if you wanted to make a top quality fake, it would still be some work. Marc |

Here's one, from a connection of mine.
The patina on the badge itself looks silvery whereas what was shown above was more brassy, to my eye. And the screwplate has no patina at all, somewhat aluminium-like. Good images, at the very least.
