Best Rifleman Badge.

Best Rifleman Badge

Following Soviet examples, the Mongolian Army established badges (of obvious design origin?) for outstanding swordsmen (Battushig C02) and riflemen (not in Battushig). This is the rifleman badge.

The Mongolian practice differs from the Soviet model in that there seems to have been no badge for outstanding horsemen. All Mongolians, one assumes, were expected to be outstanding horsemen.

This series of badges was stopped in the 1930s, as the designs were seen as being too "Soviet".

Re: Mongolian Army badges

I think they are all facinating. :thumbsup What I find ironic is that you commented about design changes to avoid being "too Soviet" when very many of them look almost exactly like soviet awards.

Re: Mongolian Army badges

Attitudes changed over time. What was "too Soviet" in the 1930s, became just dandy in the 1960s, when it came to badges. The orders and medals, while having rough systemetic parallelism, remain completely Mongolian in design. (As opposed to, say, Afghanistan.)

Never forget that tricky old issue of change over time.
