Hello,

what do you think about this miniature Academy badges.
I never saw one like this before. Are they fantasy pieces?

Andreas

I really doubt the authenticity of these badges. Soviets were not big on stickpin badges.

But if someone is making fantasy badges such as this, the world's turned upside down!

These look rather crude, besides the Soviets never made miniature badges.

Paul,

I don't believe those are Soviet made. I'll reply in the other thread.

I don't know if this is necessarily a faked badge. I have a badge like this, and I'm fairly certain that it is not made of silver, but plated alloy (steel, nickel?)

When badge scrolls identifying the academy were abolished, a simplified "unified badge" was adopted. More than few graduates were non-plussed. Seeing that the holes for the scroll's prongs are in the non-enamelled parts of the badge, this might have been a "retro'ed" standard badge. If the badge reverse has a mint mark, this would seem the case.

Earlier scrolled badges had "islands" at the bottom, raised portions where the white enamel was not applied. This is where the prong holes were located. The prong holes on these badges are closer together.

Hi Andreas,

I saw those badges too, they are being described as pins issued to GDR Officers who graduated in Soviet Military Acadamies. Maybe even made in the GDR?

Eddie.

Now that explanation is plausible. The Germans did stickpins much more frequently than the Soviets.

I think that's a possibility, but Soviet they are not.
