interesting...
.. I was wondering if it was because they did not want the identity of the Partisans known/public..

Partisans
It was my understanding that many of these people who received later medals were not Partisans, but people who had reached positions of power who needed to explain what they were doing in the occupied sector during the war.

I guess anything's possible, but not a whole lot of these were issued. Also, if anyone had a questionable past, I don't think they'd be attaining positions of power high enough to bend the system to get a partisan medal.

well!
Irrespective of when issued (earliest document I have seen was 1948, latest was 1975) I think these are an interesting and important piece. I am surprised given the low numbers awarded, that these were never numbered medals. Be that as it may, it's one that seldom shows up in documented groups but the individual documents seem to be (somewhat) available from the usual suspects. An interesting medal to me. Thanks for all the details & input!

Re: Medal "Partisan Of The Patriotic War".
A very nice piece!
It is just a shame the Partisan has such a common name. I have looked through every citation on "the site" and none of them mention anyone having been a partisan at any point. The Memorial site also has 2 pages of this name. On the plus side for me, one of the chaps was in a Railway Exploitation Regiment so was interesting reading for me.

Alas, his photograph has been removed and another quite common name. . . |
