Beautiful photo !

It appears that he wears the breast star as well, making him a KCBE.

No. KBE is the proper postnominal. GBE, KBE/DBE, CBE. OBE, and MBE.

Interesting.
Thanks for the clarification.
For some reason I thought that the "Knight Commander" rank in the chivalry orders always had a "C" following the K.

Some orders do, some don't. It is a KCB, but a KBE, go figure.

Re: U.S. Army Decorations Awarded to Red Army Personnel in World War II

Here's a British decoration to Captain (or Major here?) Ivan Aleksandrovich Musienko: later a Hero of the Soviet Union, and eventually a Major General. Here's a colorized photo of him with his MBE badge. In his personal file, Musienko described the award as "gift from king George VI."

Re: British Awards Bestowed On Red Army Personnel During World War II

I can tell you from experience there is nothing quite compares with getting a favour from a monarch.

Somehow I don't quite think these two exchanged gifts over a polite luncheon.

I wonder how it was seen later, "A bourgeoisie trinket of imperial decadence not in keeping with the party or state".
