Here's a British decoration to Captain (or Major here?) Ivan Aleksandrovich Musienko: later a Hero of the Soviet Union, and eventually a Major General. Here's a colorized photo of him with his MBE badge. In his personal file, Musienko described the award as "gift from king George VI."

I can tell you from experience there is nothing quite compares with getting a favour from a monarch.
Somehow I don't quite think these two exchanged gifts over a polite luncheon. I wonder how it was seen later, "A bourgeoisie trinket of imperial decadence not in keeping with the party or state".
