National Hero title from Yugoslavia

Guys,

We forgot about this one from Yugoslavia - National Hero:

Instituted on 15 August 1943, to award outstanding bravery in action. This order was instituted on August 15, 1943.

The last example was awarded on May 16 1976 to Tito.

From begining until then totaly awarded have been:
- 45 to military units or other organizations,
- 22 to foreigners,
- 1324 to Yugoslavian citizens.

The bearer of those orders were given special awards and conditions for lifetime. This title counts as one of the highest ranked awards of socialist Yugoslavia in the past WWII time.

In the time the after WWI it was the highest rank order with the institution of the order of Grand Yugoslavian Star it took 3rd rank in the orders list.

Soviet Citizens awarded:
Marshal Biruzov S. S. - 1964 (post-humous award)
Marshal Tolbukhin - 1945

Eddie,

Wow! As far as Czechoslovak heroes, weren't there more Soviet recipients? I believe that Konev was one of them. TIA

John,
No doubt there were more, this is just away of saving space, a good idea from Kim, One Star = One Post. Any additional awardees can then be edited into the relevant Post and if need be the post with the info can then be delated. Long threads become tiresome and it's hard to find what you are looking for.

Eddie.

Sergei Konstantinovich KRIKALEV.

Not exactly a Foreign Hero Star but Krikalev has both the Hero of the Soviet Union and the Hero of the Russian Federation.

John,

You are correct, many Soviet Marshals were Heroes of CSSR.

(2) Hero of Chechoslovakia:
Marshal Grechko - 1969
Marshal Yeremenko - 1970
Marshal Zakharov - 1970
Marshal Konev - 1970
Marshal Moskalenko - 1969
Marshal Ustinov - 1980
Marshal Yakubovskiy - 1970

and Leonid Illich Brezhnev - as a collector deserved not one Hero of Cssr, but THREE:
1970
1976
1981

Does anyone remember if Brezhnev even put his foot on the Chech soil during WWII?

William
