do not clean

Hi,

my opinion is that don´t clean it. The patina belongs in the old badge. So I think it is better to leave as is.

speaking of cleaning!

a few days ago i bought a red star with a s/n just a tiny bit over 81000 which was in very good nick BUT it has been cleaned and all that history is gone! so how can i age it up or will the tarnish come back after a while?ALSO can any one tell me around when this would have been made and issued?by the way was 50 euros to much to pay? its just normaly the s/n are well over a million over here so i snapped it up!!! a realy nice piece though!
thanks for any help you can give me!!

This is the problem with almost ANY cleaning other that bushing off the grime with a damp childrens' toothbrush: it is irreversible. A lesson learned?

It will come back..how fast is determined by environmental factors. Essentially the patina on silver is oxidized metal. A chemical reaction between the metal and oxygen. Acids from your skin, and salt in the air will quickly change the color, however only time will give silver a real good patina. You might know what I'm talking about if you've ever seen a piece of polished silver, then after it's been handled and sat around a few days it will darken rather quickly and in blotches. However if you look at an old silver piece that has oxidized over a long period of time, the color is warm and even. Takes a long time for that to "grow".

Don´t exaggerate

It´s not to say "Oh, what a pity, my order of Glory is horrible, NO!"
As Generalissimus Art said, the condition is part of its history.
I would like to have an order of Glory like yours, even in a worse condition.....
(At my 15 years I´m just starting, Ok?)

I have a soviet paratrooper qualification badge and sports award both dug up in Stalingrad. I picked them up there in 2002. I have been there twice and they have loads of dug stuff, but i have never seen a dug medal or order.
