Re: Para Airborne badge inscription

Thanks to all! Goes to show there is always something more to learn, even about little fine details. Come to think about it, it's the little fine details that makes collecting so much fun.

Re: Para Airborne badge inscription

Speaking of jump logs, I also have a paper statement tucked away somewhere from the late 40's or early 50's that is a unit's certification to a guy for the number of jumps he had, so there appear to have been both formal jump logs (like you get in the US Army) and less formal jump "statements".

Re: Very Nice Early Jump Wings

Jim, if you want another's opinion, ask Igor M. The last time I've seen any of the badges of this caliber on sale was 10+ years ago at his site. He's another source you can trust with actual experience with these badges.

Parachustist Badge

Airborne 1948-type airborne badge.

Yes the "hole" method in cardboard is expedient, not necessarily pretty.

Ooo...nice. That was on my wish list whilst I was still gainfully employed.
Is the '2' a class designation?

Yes, the "razryad" word on the white canopy above equates to "class" or "level".

Re: Airborne 1948-type Airborne Badge

I think it's 1955, earlier badges had a slightly different design. Still, a rare and desirable piece!

Airborne badges, meaning of the numbers?

Hi,
I have seen some airborne badges and I want to know, what the two different numbers on them mean. On the one hand there's the number on the badge(10, 20, 30, 40...) on the other hand there is a number on the little sign hanging down(1, 2, 10...). Do they have different meanings? What does for example the right badge in the picture mean? 11 jumps?

Thank you for your help, regards.

Re: Airborne badges, meaning of the numbers?

I'm pretty sure that you're correct in your assumption.

Originally, the numbers were supposed to represent the recipient's number of jumps, but for practical reasons the lower suspension number usually doesn't change. The tens and hundreds numbers are more reliable indicators of a jumper's experience.
