A (partial?) phliatelic treatment of (four of) the awards of The Great Leader.
This is one reason I found these stamps so interesting, since they seem to include the dates of the awards. Just to summarize: Mongolia - Sukhbaatar - 1953 Malagasy Republic - National Order - 1985 USSR - Lenin - 1987 Cuba - Playa Giron - 1987 |

Re: The awards of Kim Il-Sung
I've spent some time looking for his Soviet citations but to no avail. I've tried his real names, pseudonyms and Russian/Korean variations - Nothing.
Not only is it almost impossible to research the reality of what he was awarded but seeing them in wear is out of the question.

Re: The awards of Kim Il-Sung
That doesn't really give us too much to go on, other than the DPRK really love their photoshop.
The picture isn't even clear enough to be certain if they are Hero Of Republic or Hero Of Labour stars.

Re: The awards of Kim Il-Sung
I know, but it's a nice addition. It looks like it's in the 90's, so I don't think He was awarded "any" more hero-stuff than this.

Re: The awards of Kim Il-Sung
Any news on the list of his awards? OK, I can guess the answer, but I just wanted to ask.

Re: The awards of Kim Il-Sung
I would expect the very first award may well have been the Soviet Medal "For Victory Over Japan".
As "Eternal President" doesn't he still get all the latest commemoratives from the state too?

"A medal lies next to Kim Il Sung's body "Medal "For the Victory over Japan"" awarded to him by the USSR."
It's placed beside him in the Kususan Palace of the Sun, apparently. He was awarded the titles of Generalissimo of the DPRK, DPRK Hero (three times), and Labour Hero which clears up the unclear image. |

Re: The Awards Of Kim Il-Sung.
Here is a photograph of Kim Il-Sung during the Soviet Occupation Of Korea. It looks like he's just been awarded this Red Banner.
