He pays a great deal of attention to overseeing the duties of the subordinated units. During the Patriotic War he repeatedly participated in the fighting with the German occupants near Korytno and Uman on the Southern Front. For skillfully leading his units in supplying the regiment with all types of allowances, as a result of which the regiment has not had a single irregularity in provisioning, he deserves to be awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd Class. Great photo indeed. He look like he is 80 years old, but the picture must have been taken in the late 40s or early 50s, so he is actually in his early fifties, max.
Interestingly, Order of Lenin #36605 (two (!) numbers lower than Zhivotchenko's) was awarded for long service to Marshal Rokossovsky on 21 February 1945. :thumbsup |

The years were not kind to the Major, perhaps the interplay of his genetic heritage and a stressful environment, regardless, I have observed such dramatic physical changes amongst the photographs of other officers. It would have been even more interesting to see and earlier picture of the Major for comparison purposes. Thank you for your comments and observations, gentlemen.
