Any knowledge about this badge?
I know that some originals were made for the Winter war but these were not given. I have never seen one. The badge in picture is made maybe 1990's. Is it made to give for the veterans afterwards, is it a fake or just a fantasy item? All opinions welcome ! It looks (stamping, colour and varnish) like a 1990s or more likely 2000s fake. I have never seen any original badge in this form. So I would say fantasy unless someone can correct me.
Anyone know what the original winter war badge was like?? Shawn |

This badge is listed with b/w photo and the discription: "To the participant of the battles on the Karelian istmus 30-XI-1939", in the I.I Likhitskiy book. Of course that is more like a for sale cataloge, but it's mentioned. The photo in the book is very poor and not worth scanning. But it seems to differ in some details. Perhaps this is model of the "real" winter war badge. I don't mean the photo Kameli has posted, that is clearly a modern made badge. Borisov doesn't mention it at all in his book about armed forces badges.
I know that there is a better version of the Likhitsky book with color photos. Does any of the forum members have a copy? Is the badge in that one also? /Kim |

Shawn,
it is absolutely new product. Kim, yep, it is in the I.I Likhitskiy book. I just didn't noticed it. Also I have the b/w book and you are very right: altough the poor picture you can see differents in details. For example look at letters. I find a short article with photo in finnish magazine. It is from 1990. The article says: "The collector sources of Moscow tells that there has been made a few prototypes of the badge "Karelian Isthmus 30-XI 1939". The badge was meant to give for the quick ending war. But as the result of the war it was never giving to the soldiers. The photo is from a private collection of the Moscow collector." The writer of the article is a very seriously researcher of orders and decorations and I have no doubt that the picture is really from the the private collection. Is it an original is another question? But we have to remember that the picture is taken in Soviet Union at late 1980's. The photo which is unfortunately b/w and my scan is not clear, but I think there are some differents if you look the earlier colour picture in this thread. More info: I have been told that the badge is also in the book "Znaki voinskoi doblesti". It is written by A.S. Domansk and printed in Moscow 1982. The badge is named "To the participant of the battles on the Karelian istmus ", so as in the I.I Likhitskiy book. I haven't seen the book and I don't if there is a picture. If someone in the forum has this book, please tell what it says about badge. Maybe a scan? Regards, Jussi-Pekka Last edited by CtahhR; 04-25-2013 at 10:40 PM. |

I have this book, but it is a photocopy. This award is pictured but it is smaller and the quality is worse than previously posted. I'm not sure if the original was in color or black and white.
