m40 branch colours

Hello,

I enjoy collecting M40 generals tunics and currently have three branch colored tunics in my collection. I tend to enjoy collecting sets and I was asking Doug (our great forum moderator) how many different piping colors' were made in the m40 style tunics. The list he sent to me listed six colors he is aware of. Those six are listed below.

red>rifles
black>tank/artillery
light blue>air force
magenta>engineering/tech.
royal blue>NKVD (had one once)
green>NKVD border troops ( not yet seen by me)

Does anyone know of any additional piping colors from th m40 era? Does anyone have any pictures of a border guards and/or NKVD piped M40 generals tunics. If you have any pictures of either of these two colors or any other colors I would appreciate you posting them.

I did a search on the forum and did not see anything posted. Thank you. Clete

M1940 NKVD General

Hey Clete,

Not one of my better shots, but I owned this M1940 NKVD Lt.General back in 1998 or so ( I know of one other; both have four pockets, and that seems unique to NKVD Generals in 1940).

I used an M1940 NKVD Genrals fur cap as I did not have the peaked cap at the time.

Great picture; thanks a lot Doug. The blue really is striking on that tunic and it would look great next to my other M40's! Thanks Clete

I did see this tunic at the SOS. It was for sale by a famous NJ dealer who is not DougD. Looking at the picture Doug posted it might be the same tunic. This one at the Show of Shows had three order holes over the heart just like the one Doug posted. I have another picture that shows the three holes but it is not in good focus. Anyway if anyone ever sees another color then what we have listed please post it. Thanks Clete

tunic

Good photo Clete. The tunic is not the one I had in, but might be the one from the Webster/Nelson book ( in the book it is misidentified as Military Intel.). Mine is a Lt.General, this is a Major General; also the material is not quite the same; still, a very rare M1940 general.

I guess I missed and easy one there Doug! I saw the three order holes and just assumed. And we all know what happens when we make assumptions now dont we!!

I wish I would have had the money to get this one and add it to my collection but alas I did not have enough money to get it. For a cloth guy there was just too much of a selection at the recent Show of Shows. Frustrating is just not a powerful enough word to describe not being able to afford even one new piece.
