Medaille für Treue Dienste in der freiwilligen Feuerwehr/ Medal for Long Service in Voluntary Fire Service

The Council of Ministers of the German Democratic Republic instituted these decorations on 22nd January, 1959.
The first award ceremony took place on the 10th anniversary of the founding of the GDR.
Besides members of the fire-brigade this decoration could also be awarded to honorary members of the volunteer fire service.
Since 1960 distinguished members of the operational fire protection organs could receive this award for conscientious performance of duties over many years.
The gold class was divided 1978 into 30 and/or 40 years.
With the award a document was issued.
The award usually took place via the advice chairmen for the members of the local voluntary fire-brigades and via the director/conductor of the enterprises for the members of the operational fire-brigades.
Most awards took place annually in each case on the 1st May and the 7th October, a few also on the day of completion of the individual stages specified by the time of affiliation.
The medal clips were at the same time the ribbon bars.
The medals were also worn frequently on pentagon suspensions, which were temporarily offered as trade. The honour was carried on the left upper breast side.
After 1990 the wearing of these decorations remained permitted.

Award period: 07.10.1959 - 1990

Awarded for faithful, conscientious and active service in the local volunteer fire-brigades (also from 1960 in the operational fire-brigade)

Classes :

Bronze, for 10 years

Silver, for 25 years, starting from 1978 for 20 years

Gold, for 40 years, starting from 1978 for 30 years

Gold "40" with the fire-brigade emblem in gold starting from 1978 for 40 years

Materials:

10 years, Bronze or copper plated
20 years, silvered bronze or nickel plated
30 years, non-precious metal, gilded bronze or gilded.
40 years, non-precious metal, gilded bronze or gilded

Dimensions:

32mm in diameter; Clip 12x25mm or 15x25mm
Case: a white plastic case with loose cover, blue cardboard insert. Also blue and red cases were used.

Here is the Medal For Faithful Service To The Voluntary Fire Brigade (Medaille Für Treue Dienste In Der Freiwilligen Feuerwehr) which was founded 22nd January 1959 in three class (Gold - 40 Years, Silver - 25 Years and Bronze - 10 Years). In 1978 a second Bronze Medal was added and service period changed. (Gold - 40 Years, Silver - 30 Years, Bronze - 20 and 10 Years).
