200th Anniversary Of The Start Of The Patriotic War.

This weekend saw the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the "Patriotic War". A war which saw a vast Russian retreat (including the loss of Moscow) leading to a decisive Russian victory. A lesson in history that was remembered by every western European nation until 1941 when the mistake was ultimately repeated.

The 100th anniversary was celebrated by an official Russian Empire Medal and no doubt many organisations of the Russian Federation will be issuing Commemorative Medals too.

As a little symbol of celebration I'm posting an unfired musket ball from the decisive battle of Berezina, where the routed French suffered a great defeat.

A fair time to reflect on the lessons learnt and forgotten from the original Patriotic War.
