What makes it rare exactly? I'm a novice to the document trade.

It's hard-paper brown/burgundy award book, most award docs were cheap paper version.

Nack,
It is the not-so-common "hard-cover" version of the document. Almost everybody got the usual, cardboard style document with facsimile of the Defense Minister's signature and of the official stamp. This type is hand stamped and numbered. As far as I understand, there seems to be a few variations in term of cover color. Marc |

Thanks LAPA & New World!!! You are correct regarding the hard cover. The value of this document is between $25-$30 USD.:thumbsup

I've never seen a brown one before. I've owned a few blue ones though...

Jussi-Pekka,
The leading theory is that it was awarded to high ranking officers, and that it always came with the brass medal. I have however seen these documents issued to regular Ivans - Captains, Majors and Colonels, so I am guessing they were also given to "people who knew important people". Alexei |

Alexei,
Thanks for the information. That theory sounds reasonable. /Jussi-Pekka |

Guys,
I should also mention that there are dark green and blue cover variations. Alexei |
