General University Graduate Badges.

I am baffled with this one...I have posted it next to a new Generic Grad Badge....but one is very old and is made of silver and has only eleven Republic markings.
It checks out patina wise 100 percent with other known badges I have of 50 and 60 years old.

Baffled..........Chris

What is your question about this badge? The number of republic scrolls? The 1936 Stalin Constitution names 11 republics as forming the USSR, this badge might date from that period.

1936-1946: 11 republics
1946-1956: 16 republics (11 original republics + estonian, latvian, lithuanian and moldavian republics + karelian-finnish)
since 1956: 15 republics (loss of karelian republic status)

That is what I was after to date the badge.

Thank you....I could not see it in any books....

Looks like the old original was reinvented for the latest issue.

Has any one seen this documented in any books.

I found this badge even more similar to its modern issue.

The silver emblem has traces of a gold finish.

This is one seriously well made badge.

Chris

General University Graduate Badges.

I need a hand here guys. I've picked up a few new graduate badges - I'm on that kick right now - and I was wondering if anybody could share his/her vast knowledge (or collectively) to put some perspective on a few questions I have.
1) Did all soviet Universities (6-year) have the same blue badge with the 'gerb' on it, or was that reserved for say MSU and LSU (Leningrad State University - not the LSU about 40 minutes from here :p)?
2) Does the color of the gerb have anything to do with grad status - say, with honors or something like that? I ask because I have several badges (pics to follow) with silver gerbs and one coming with gold brass gerb. Also, the two pre-1945 badges may have had gold plating at one time, but I cannot tell.

Thanks,
Phillip

The reverse, and the screw plates must be wrong - at least the one on the left.

Re: University/Institute grad badges???

Ah, I forgot to put these first. This is the diploma I received with one of the university badges. Any help with the translation would be appreciated. As I said above, I have a hell of a time with Russian script. Also, where on these does it say which institution awarded the diploma?

One more thing: does the color of the diploma have to do with the institution or the type of program?

Make that yet another thing: I am suspect about the document because it is in near perfect condition with just some dust in the tiny grooves on the cover. But then these weren't used like IDs so the "hinge" and edges would be in better condition than other types of documents this old.

My we've got some awfully paranoid people around here. The document is in perfect condition precisely because it is a diploma - do you carry your college diploma around town and present it to people on a daily basis? ;). Its condition can be explained since it probably stayed well preserved in a drawer somewhere for years.

It was granted by the Moscow Metallurgy Institute.

Re: University/Institute grad badges???

Well, thank you. But could you tell me where on the page can you see that it was the Moscow Metalurgical Institute? I'm sure I'm missing it in the hand-written sections (because it is very hard for me to follow most Russian script).:(
