Restore M1945 tunics?

To all:

The well-known auction site currently has an original, albeit rather ratty condition, M1945 VP tunic up for bid. Search under "SOVIET WWII GENERALS JACKET EARLY PATTERN" to see it.

Regards,

I am bidding on it, but not alot; its in really poor condition. Its from the Mosfilm archives, and lacks boards too.

Mosfilm

Mosfilm and Lenfilm were the two big movie studios in the USSR; they had huge reserves of uniforms from the war, both German and Russian. Often the uniforms are like the one for auction; removed insignia and in poor shape. However, there have been some great finds in the early days circa 1992-1994.

On a side note, there have been fake Mosfilm stamps noted in German uniforms. It seems that guys are making fake uniorms and then adding these stamps to give a fake "history" of the uniform.

Mosfilm (and I think Lenfilm as well) had huge blow-out sales of their uniforms around 1992. I remember going to a guy's house where he had purchased Soviet visor hats by the boxfuls from Mosfilm. No, not the $20 1980's officers visors... We're talking visor hats dating back to the Revolution, and then hats beyond that... He even had some gorgeous Tsarist helmets that had come out of the boxes! Most of the hats had been crushed and were in severe need of repair, but he had the patience and skill to rebuild them, one by one... Most of the German uniforms on the market at the time were Mosfilm surplus. I remember being envious even at that time (1994) as the sellers were making a "huge" profit asking $50 each for the uniforms!

$760

The tunic sold for $760. The more I looked at the photos the more I was really turned off by its condition. The hole can be repaired, but the massive moth tracking can not. As I would want to get the tunic, repair it, get it boards, and then move it, there would be little I could add on for myself to make it worth it. If the buyer got it for himself, then its not a bad deal. If he got it to turn, he might have trouble. Just my opinion.
