What do we know about the serial number range of actually awarded Stars of 3rd class?

In our catalogue we have the number of awarded at 9,277. I assume the number of manufatured Soviet pieces was higher, as I've seen Stars with SN above 9,277.

What happened with un-issued pieces? Were they all shipped to Yugoslavia or were some left in Soviet Union?

Very good question. I would imagine that the Soviet Union would have had medals in storage, and given the rift between Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union shortly after WWII, would it be that the Soviets just kept what Yugoslavian awards they had in stock?

The number I have been given as issued for 3rd class pieces is 10,384 up to 1972. I have also been told none were issued after 1972, but that leaves me wondering why IKOM produced any of these orders at all, I mean the Soviet made pieces I have seen are serial numbered up to the 18,000's serial number range. I have not seen an IKOM piece numbered below 21,000 serial number range and I have handled IKOM order serial numbered in the high 28,000's serial number range. It leaves me trying to figure out why the awarding supposedly stopped in 1972. And if so why were more produced. I can see running off a thousand pieces to have in stock for potential awarding but if these numbers are correct there would have been a stockpile of close to 18,000 to 20,000 pieces combining both types Soviet and Yugoslav made??????? Probably the records existed at some time and possibly still do exist somewhere in the former Yugoslavia. It certainly would be an accomplishment for some of our collector colleagues who are in any of the Republics of the former Yugoslavia to research this and find the true answers.

That would be interesting to see, if someone can get his hands on the awards records.

So it looks like Partizan Stars were awarded up to 1972 and after. What was the reason to give partizan award 20-30 yrs after the end of any partizan campaing in Yugoslavia? Possibly a catch-up awards?

As we speak about Soviet made Partisan stars III I think that these were awarded even after the war until sixties or maybe latter.IKOM stars were made I guess in sixties or seventies...But what is interesting that we can not connect IKOM made stars whit any award certificate even late one...So who knows what happened and what kind of order was when they awarded these orders.
All these quantities come form Bosnia (Sarajevo) both types Soviet above 8000 and IKOM 21000 and above.The story was that there was definitive last line of defence in former Yugoslavija and place for last stand.All these orders and orders for bravery,peoples merit,medal for bravery and medal for peoples merit were also find in large quantities.And all that stuff was in one of the large bunkers in area around Sarajevo.Maybe true or not who knows?

OK here are as possible right infos on all three classes of partisan stars as could be.
First shipment of all three grades came in Yugoslavija in 1944.First awarded 7th September 1944.
1st class 627 from 1944-1980
2nd class 1531 from 1944-1972
3rd class 10384 from 1944-1972

Figures for shipments from Russia to Yugoslavija are next.1st class 1000 orders,2nd class 1750 orders and 3rd class 4000 orders in first shipment in September 1944.
Second shipment in October 1944-1st class 2116,2nd class 3588 and 3rd class 8100 orders.
Last shipment in june 1945-2nd class 3000 and 3rd class 10000 orders-no 1st classes.
All these orders were ordered by Yugoslav government in 1944 and all these are delivered to Yugoslavija.What happened to all these orders is unknown to me.
All these figures are from official list from chancellery of orders in Belgrade from 1987.
True or untrue who knows but books,papers and lists says so...

This would also explain why the IKOM Partisan Stars start at 22,000!!!

There were 3 shipments made from Russia:
Sep 1944: 3 - 4,000
Oct 1944: 3 - 8,100
Jun 1945: 3 - 10,000
Total: 3 - 22,100

Now things start to make sense!

So, now we know number of Stars in existence:

1st class - 3116
2nd class - 8338

The stats are a lot higher than I thought, meaning there should be enough 2nd, possibly even 1st classes for everyone...

Here's the reverse of IKOM made Partizan Star 3rd class. It looks very different from Soviet made pieces.

I have an award certificate for a 3rd Class of the Order of the Partisan Star to a Lieutenant in the Soviet Army which indicates that it was awarded on 30 April 1945. The badge is numbered 2376. Gunner 1

Gentlemen,

Here is for your appreciation a piece that is described as a 2nd Class by the seller.
Comparing the pics with other 2nd Class pics, I find it a bit weird, as if the star was kind of more curved shappe than usual, also the arms seem not as long as usual, and finally the wreath seems much more gold color than most of these I've seen.

Isn't it possible that this is a hat pin instead?!... Just wondering :confused:
