Medal For Outstanding Achievements In Fire Protection.

Medaille für hervorragende Leistungen im Brandschutz (Fire Protection Distinguished Service Medal) (1983)

The Council of Ministers of the German Democratic Republic instituted this decoration on the10th February, 1983.
It was awarded regularly on the1st July of the year (day of the people’s police) or immediately after the achieved achievement to individuals and collectives of the volunteers fire-brigade, other persons and collectives, national institutions and citizens of other states.
Annually maximal 200 medals could be awarded .
Individuals also received a premium of 1500, - Mark, collectives a premium of maximal 5000, - Mark.
The decoration was the highest specialized honour for a fire-brigade member.
Wearing the award after 1990 is permitted.

Award period: 01.07.1984 - 1990

Awarded for outstanding achievements in fire protection, in particular during the fire prevention, fire limitation and fire fighting, as well as for the protection of citizens and their valuables.

High level of bravery during fire fighting, with protection of the lives of citizens and with the prevention of damage.

Important events in the development of fire protection in the GDR or international cooperation of the fire protection organs.

Reverse: first smooth then later roughened or with a diamond pattern

Material: Bronze, gilded, center section painted.

Dimensions: 38mm wide, height 45mm
