Incredible and interesting thread! I never noticed about the existance of this sword since now. At first sight it seems done over a XIII century model closely related to Alexander Nevsky figure....

Great thread.

According to Molotov's memoirs, Stalin was so touched by the gift of the sword that he shed a tear. (Hard to imagine this happening--but this is recounted by a couple of different witnesses) However, this was quickly changed over to rage when Voroshilov dropped the sword! Stalin later made Voroshilov go up to Churchill and apologize. In Churchill's memoirs, Churchill recounts Voroshilov approaching him--he thought Voroshilov was trying to get himself invited to Churchill's birthday party. :)
