Re: How to wear an over-the-shoulder belt?
Phillip,
No need to take a poll to figure things out. If you check the regulations, both KGB AND cavalry used the royal blue color. Marc |

Re: How to wear an over-the-shoulder belt?
i have to take lapa's side here.
the regulations state that the deep blue was used by kgb and cavalry. the regiment of seremonial cavalry also known as "the hollywood regiment" because of there many movie apearances had a few differend names over time. so it may have been called kgb cavalry unit, i dont know. there was only one regiment (maybe even less) under command of a colonel in the hole of the soviet republic after the war. for the collor i have to say it is just like the black used by transport troops , tank, attilery and so on. the same collor was used for differend brances of service. cavalry patched are rare, as are the uniforms for it. there is no evidence nor regulations for cavalry patches in differed colors. there has been discussions about them the brick red one's and all other imaginary colors. time and time again they by lack of photo evidence or regulations where found to be resend fakes. |

Re: How to wear an over-the-shoulder belt?
Thanks guys. Frankly, I figured as much, but I was trying not to shut down anyone's thoughts on the matter with just my opinion. Like I said, I'm not the uniform expert. I'm more focused on the shiny metal things they wore on them.:)

Re: How to wear an over-the-shoulder belt?
This is what Tretov was talking about; sewn on epaulets with tailored "defect" to allow shoulder strap to pass under the epaulet. This one is on Colonel-General T. Khryukin's M49 service jacket.

Re: How to wear an over-the-shoulder belt?
Call it what you want, but it does look better to me and it prevents the "arching" or curling of the strap that can happen with these. Thanks for the photo Jeffrey.:thumbsup

The guards and university graduation badges didn't come with the uniform but fit nicely in some "small screwplate" holes on the right. At some point the star fell out of his China Service Ribbon. ColGen died heroically swerving his car into the ditch to avoid hitting a bunch of peasant women in the road in July 1953. The fact this occurred a month after Beria's purge may be pure coincidence or may suggest that the this HSU had backed the wrong horse but was respected enough to be allowed to have a hero's death rather than be part of a show trial. Re: How to wear an over-the-shoulder belt?
Yes indeed. I love the very "individual" aspect to the earlier uniforms. Pinache (sp?) is a nice word for it.
One question though, as an airforce general (correct?), would he ever have needed to wear an over-the-shoulder belt? One more question, is there a better or more accurate name for an "over-the-shoulder" belt other than "Sam Brown"?;) Phillip

Practically, I think the wear of shoulder belt is needed if you have a map case and gun holster to carry around. Without the support from the shoulder strap, the belt will slide downwards from the weight of the map case, which will cause annoyance after a day in the field. |
