Medal "For Participant In "March-Shot" Bosnia-Kosovo 12th June 1999".
Here is a neat group that I have in my collection to a soldier who took part in the Bosnia Campaign. He has the Kosovo, Bosnia Medal serial #336 and a Russian Federation campaign medal with Bosnia inscribed on the reverse and serial #1063. I have a photocopy of his award document for the Kosovo medal (he wouldn't give up the original document) and it is dated 20 June 2000. It is my understanding that only 400 of these medals were awarded and only 500 made. Is this correct?
Thanks, Ed |

I'm not sure how many were awarded, but the Russian announcement of the medal's establishment indicated that it was intended for award only to those who took part in the historic dash to Pristina, upsetting NATO plans.
According to a great website on Russian Federation Awards (announced in the reference section of this forum -- http://www.netdialogue.com/yy/Russia...ovo/Kosovo.htm) 500 medals were minted - 250 in the first class and 250 in the 2nd class. This website also mentions that 250 received the first class new-silver medal for participants, while 93 received the 2nd class tombak medal for those who supported the operation. Of note, Russian media sources indicate that either 220 or 225 men participated in the raid composed of the 2nd Separate Airborne Battalion based in Bosnia. Furthermore, 206 participants and associated staff also received separate decorations: 31 Orders of Courage, 124 For Valour medals, and 41 Suvorov medals. |

Fake Bosnia-Kosovo raid medal on ebay. The medal is very rare just as the seller states. The original pieces have the lower ribbon all the way down at the rim and it´s darker in color. The suspension ring is badly soldered and on the reverse the mumber is wrong. It should be as high numerals as the N ca 2mm and even. There are no line under the number on the fake as on the original piece. Flat gold. It´s a fake.
( It a seller in Estonia who has all the high end orders with numbers 100 numbers to high or to low. It´s quite impressing to find 3 Order to service of the motherland of USSR 1st class, two tractor lenins and some of the first type of Red banner of labor in the same little shop at the same time.) he also have for sell an fake Nevskij order and have had lots of other bad high end stuff. I don´t think it´s common that the "C" letter on order of the badge of honor falls off.

Sovvisor,
Thank for posting this medal. I have never seen it before, but I would never believe that a Russian medal can have such an ugly loop. Alexei |

I have two such medals that I picked up in 2000 in Moscow right after the event. They are SN'd in the 03xx's. The suspension ring isn't the greatest. I also have a magazine article in Russian on the issue, but it is in storage. There were only some 300 issued and it is considered a "vedomstvennoe" issue, and not a state award. |
